“I actually say all the time when I'm talking to people about finding their personal style to think back to what they wanted to wear when they were a kid,” she says. “Before any thoughts of what was flattering or trendy were in your head.”
“If an outfit isn’t interesting because of its colors , it should be interesting because of its cut. If it isn’t interesting because of its cut , it should be interesting because of its textures. And if it isn’t interesting because of its textures , it should be interesting because of its colors.”
“When you look at it realistically, with how many versions of yourself you go through throughout the day, you’re never going to fit into an aesthetic.” In an exclusive interview with Her Campus, Mac explains, “You’re not one person who does one thing every single day and has one wardrobe that will match.” The goal? “Bringing realism back to fashion.”
“Do not feel bad that you’re not completely comfortable with yourself. It is a journey,” she said. “It is a long, long road. And you will get there — but do not feel bad when you’re on the way.”
“If you have to convince yourself to like a piece or if you have any other reaction besides ‘Oh my god this is perfect,’ you might get one or two uses out of it, but once the novelty of wearing something new wears off, again, it’s never going to make it off the hanger.” She adds: “If you aren’t totally sure about a piece, leave it behind. Being picky is how we shop more consciously, and we deserve to be picky.”
“Rose sees their style as a bit eclectic, with items grabbed from various moments in their life. “It's gonna be my friend’s T-shirt that they gave me when we were 11, and my grandmother's watch, and these pants that I just thrifted, you know?” Rose says.”
